Headwind

Headwind

– Dangast to Bremerhaven –

83.9 km. (79.4 + to the city)

There I sit now, in the corner of a common room in the hostel. Cozy is different to me at least three school classes on class trip. The little ones play bingo, the next ones are forced to play community games next door and the last ghosts ghost through the house or play football. – The place is just behind my tent, on the other side of the harbour.

This morning I thought it was a good idea to spend the night in Bremerhaven. But I didn’t know that all the shops in the city centre/pedestrian zone would close at seven o’clock. The promenade is deserted and ice-cold by the wind, only the Edeka opposite has opened 24/7. Peculiar.

The first few kilometres this morning I still have tailwinds, but then it goes north. Headwinds up to wind strength 7. After the flight yesterday, the small aisles are again allowed to show what they

and my legs too. After all, I can finally follow the signs of the North Sea Cycle Path, at least more or less. There was only one construction site and one city that I missed. Otherwise it was as usual. Left the dike, mostly with sheep. Then a way out of concrete slabs. Sometimes the fence is in front of it, sometimes behind it. Then comes a dig and a meadow. Or cows. And then, in the distance, the highway and some wind turbines. I just don’t like to look at them from the front. At least when they are so fast. Just that the planes above me are of the faster variety, I can’t get used to it yet.

For lunch there are quickly baguette smothered with Nutella, but despite the over-the-top pants and fleece and rain jacket, it gets too cold. Quickly move on.

For this photo of Blanken Hans a couple overtook me and amazed me over my bike. She had probably complained about the luggage, but I can’t ask where they are going for a long time. Probably not long on the road.

A sheep reminds me of Peppino from “The Children of Monsieur Matthieu”. It’s just as thought-lost and sad on the fence. But unfortunately I don’t have a photo, and the camera doesn’t run either.

In the direction of the ferry it goes eastwards, finally with the half wind in the back. On the crossing, actually no more than on the Rhine, there is really sea passage. And I don’t know if I’m holding my bike so it doesn’t get blown over or so I don’t fly away myself. Once again straight through the pedestrian zone and a little further, then my night camp is reached. The leisurely stroll in the city has been as I said impossible. It’s a pity, but at least nothing keeps me here. Better take advantage of the hopefully spinning wind and plan a slightly shorter day.
