12. August, the long distance

Faversham – Greenwich

100 km

In the forest we are awake early. After a quick breakfast and a look into the sky, it is finally clear: it’s not just as far as Gravesend, but it’s just greenwich. And there for two days in a hostel.

In the morning it goes quite fast over the first hills and especially down. Only gradually do individual people come to meet us, later many churchgoers. It’s Sunday. Thus the question is also clarified whether we can look at one of the old churches – we do not want to disturb the divine service.

When we first see the sea that day, there is low tide. Stupid actually. Have we really seen it before and that even though we are on an island… irrelevant. There are other days.

However, the plan to drive along the water through Gillingham to Chatham turned out to be a fall. In a city alone, the average traffic light will at least double in one day. And the route is not on the water, but on a larger road that is steeped in the climb. In hindsight, we are smarter now. In the supermarket we buy new drinks and lunch, then picnic in a nice place.

Another difficult plan, because how this can be in big cities, there is no nice picnic area in sight so quickly. A mountain for that. With a church on it. I felt like I was on my first big bike ride, where I didn’t manage to push my bike on such a steep slope. For this, there is finally food at the top of the cemetery wall. Self-occupied baguette.

A whole while later and after some up and down, we book two beds in the hostel. And with this view, it will be much better until the London skyline can be seen in the distance. So again quickly ask the navi where exactly we need to and after checking in a bit explore the place and what to look for. Fish ‘n chips in the rain. typical. After all, the weather was pretty good before and we weren’t in the tent.
