16. August, Rain
Cambridge – Holbeach
77.2 km
Now it is time. I finally write on with a little delay and want to start immediately in English, because the last thing I wrote were loud requests to campsites, of course all in English. Well, here I stay with German.
In the morning we get up just on time. Actually we had planned to sleep out, but somehow nothing will come of it. So we get up and quickly clear the tent when we look into the sky – not a second too late. Just when the last bag is attached to the wheel, it starts to rain. Again quickly to the toilet and put on the rain things because waiting brings nothing. Afterwards we go to the train station, because we have to shorten a few km. For having a day off in London. Or just drive over 100km a day and that will be too much in the long run.
Arriving at Cambridge at the station (despite a decent dose of headwinds), we find a bank for breakfast. I let go of the hustle and bustle of coming from the door to the track.
In any case, we reap a lot of strange looks.
The train is clearly not made for bicycles, but for wheelchairs. And since this is the largest contiguous area, we should get in there. On the train there is practically a socket, which at least I had missed at the campsite.
King’s Lynn is supposed to be quite nice, at least it is signposted in Cambridge as a destination. With a lot of rain, its beauty is unfortunately not very visible.
After an uncomfortable zigzag course in the rain we come to a bigger city and can shop. One of the few rays of light is a funny cat, who looks at all our luggage and Hannah jumps on the bike.
Towards the evening we drive to a small, cheap campsite supposedly just before Boston. At the time of the meal it turns out that it would have been 20km. Well.
