Too many people, 17.8.19
After a few days in the car I spent the last night in a hostel. In the bay of Islands, which everyone praised, I didn't really like it during the day, but I didn't come any further than Kerikeri. And I was overwhelmed by the many people.
After getting up I set off early to spend a nice day on beautiful beaches. But nothing came of it. First of all, the weather was not good, or just very cloudy, which doesn't make a beach more inviting, and secondly, I couldn't do anything with the area. Why exactly do I not know? But the place Paihia reminded me too much of the villages on the North Sea that exist only for the tourists. Add to that some southern flair with the tiny supermarket open to the street and the thin wooden construction of the houses. It is quite possible that the whole thing looks very different in the sunshine or even from a boat.
After visiting an old missionary settlement and the fortress of the Maori or rather the remaining grass mound, as well as some waterfalls, I ended up here in Kerikeri in the hostel. Unfortunately relatively well attended, 80% German backpackers and through the upcoming weekend with party in the common area. In order to top it all up, one of my roommates started a workout around ten o'clock in the evening.
Well. by now I have survived the night. Could freeze my refrigerated packs again and take a shower. Immediately I make my lunch ready and breakfast properly, then it goes on. Along the coast towards the north. And then hopefully the rainy season and the cold nights will pass so that I can finally cycle again.
