Day 1

Day 1

From friendly railway staff, detours in a circle and a tent on the playground.

After a typical farewell breakfast at home, with bread rolls and everything around it, we head across the city to the train station. Luckily all known ways to get used to the weight of the wheel. It is a little tight with time, but only for the timetable. The reality is different, at 25 min. So there is plenty of time to make some jokes and wait and see which track the train will be laid on. Luckily only opposite. So started to remove some bags at least from my bike so that it could carry it up the steps. In the car we continue with Tetris and Soku-Bahn and a small morning dös together with a second breakfast. Shortly before Münster it is time to park out and get to know nice staff, which helps with obviously good mood to transport our ten bags outside. The couple opposite with their large backpacks looks a little surprised.

In Münster there is a small excursion into the city centre because of culture and local knowledge. However, the latter is put to the test on the way back on the bike path, because we missed our exit. Two unsuspecting in Münster… But everything is half as wild. 15 min later we are at the Dortmund-Ems Canal, our first destination. We follow him as far as Gelmer to meet the Ems cycle path. Here the Ems is still a small stream with many floodplains, but how quickly this can change we will be able to guess today.

Our lunch break is in Greven. At the golden M, where we get away with vouchers even quite cheaply. It’s still warm outside. Luckily we get a shady place in the next bigger place, actually already quite a big city for this area, in Emsdetten, and let us go well with a cool yogurt. The attempt to find the campsite there is unfortunately unsuccessful, it has already been closed years ago and has been replaced by a new building area. Because there are some of them. The shortcut back to the bike path I can smell good, because we are quickly back at our well-known signs.

Unfortunately also to take literally, because at the Saline God’s Gift of The Castle Bentlage we drive a tidy circle. Strictly speaking, even two. Fortunately, an older gentleman, also to Rade, shows us the way. – We have overlooked a sign.

Nevertheless, we arrive well at the planned campsite. Although a little later, we quickly learn that it is not the time to call the place keeper, but the fact that it is actually a place for permanent camping. So it is also that we have the great honour to sleep in the playground.

After a quick meal and still unroutinely slow evening, it is now time to go to sleep.
